Yet most lack a clear plan how they're going to get there.

  •

    What is business transition?

  • Any change related to a change in ownership, including:

    broken image

    Growth

When the shareholder group is expanded, through investment or employee share ownership programs (ESOPs).

    broken image

    Exit

    Selling the company.

    broken image

    Succession

When the existing owner(s) step back, including transfers to family members.

  •

    Experts agree:

  • Advisory Boards complement and maximize the value of existing expertise.

    broken image

    Management Teams

    Often lack exit/transition experience.

    broken image

    Boards of Directors

    Exist to approve, not recommend.

    broken image

    Existing Advisors

    Typically focus on own domain.

  •

How do Advisory Boards actually work?

  • Boards of directors represent shareholders. Advisory Boards are informal sounding boards for management.

    broken image

    Responsibilities

    1. Increase relevant expertise
    2. Structure, develop, & test ideas
    3. Expand connections & options
    4. Improve decision-making & governance

    broken image

    Structure

    • 5 members
    • Chair + 2 external + 2 internal
    • Quarterly or bi-monthly
    • In-person or virtual

    broken image

    Typical Cost

    • $50-75K/year (not including set-up)
    • Depending on frequency/travel
    • Cash, equity or mix

  •

What could an Advisory Board do for me?

  • Fact: most are set up by later stage companies—and get results quickly.

    broken image

4 in 5 are set up after the startup stage.

    broken image

Objectives range from growth to exit.

    broken image

Impact is rapid, measurable, and consistent.

  •

    The biggest challenge: getting going.

  • Standard set-up options are time consuming and costly.

    broken image

    Personal Networks

Personal networks are often limited in availability and expertise, and  lack true independence.

    broken image

    Executive Search

An excellent route to top talent— though at $60-80K set-up before ongoing costs, prohibitive for most.

  •

    How is Rimrock different?

  • Rimrock gets it: you have limited resources to invest in your business transition.

So we direct them to where they matter most — away from search (which we provide free) and into the best, most relevant expertise.

We direct them into a Lean Advisory Board.

  •

    What does "Lean" mean?

  •

Lean is a powerful if widely misunderstood approach to turning ideas into results with less time and risk.

At root it's about testing assumptions efficiently before making substantial investments — like putting hundreds of thousands into an Advisory Board that doesn't deliver.

    Lean does not mean "cheap".

    It means "efficient".
